There is one sport in which Khmer champions usually shine in international competitions, and it is petanque (or boules). The goal of the game is to throw metal balls as close as possible to the target: the jack, or cochonnet (literally: the piglet).
Doesn't sound thrilling? You're wrong. Petanque is a game of skill and passion, where the players usually are fiercely competitive, screaming and jumping around when the tides turn after a beautiful shoot. Carreau! Well, at least this is how we amateurs enjoy the game.
Grab a set of balls at the Russian market and join a friendly game at the Olympic Stadium one of these days. All levels are welcome!
