Phnom Penh is a great city, full of life, bustle and commotion. However there is, on occasion, a need to head out of the city and enjoy the fresh air of the natural world. For those of you who have not been, Oudong is a great day trip to escape the city. Located about 35km outside of Phnom Penh, Oudong – the old capital – with its glistening white central stupa, giant golden Buddha and commanding views over the surrounding countryside is one of the best places to spend a day, soaking up the atmosphere and enjoying the fresh air. The Wat at the foot of the hill (which you can see from the summit) and which is built on an impressive scale is also well worth taking an extra hour or so to enjoy. So why not pay a visit if you find yourself with some free time on a weekend.
