Cambodia is the homeland of the Blues on this continent as a native art form: the famous chapei player Kung Nai is our local Robert Johnson, and the similarity of inspiration and sound can be striking. So no surprise if Blues artists from other parts of the world feel right at home near the Mekong Delta.
Doc Span is an American singer and harmonicist trained in Chicago in the sixties. He learned the harmonica at Blues Clubs like the Checkerboard Lounge and Ma Beas on the Westside while working as a paramedic at the notorious Cook County Jail.
He'll be playing at the Chinese House this Friday (July 9, 9pm), along with some of the very best musicians of the capital. Be there!
