« Dance is a language that can say things words cannot say as well ». With this maxim, choreographer Peter Chin has you up and ready to see the unsuspected in his not-to-be-missed “Transmission of the Invisible” spectacle at Chenla Theater. Two Cambodians, three foreigners – five dancers who will share what dancing is to them: spirituality in the millenarian gesture of the blooming flower; radiating energy in the majestic stride of Peter Chin’s “ordinary giants”; absolute trust in their leaping crisscrossing duets. Let these otherworldly dancers guide you where, somehow, you will be reminded of a freedom and light-heartedness you had forgotten about.
Mixing Khmer traditional dance and contemporary dance, Peter Chin explores the urgency to nurture and reinvigorate the essence of Cambodian culture in the aftermath of the Khmer Rouge genocide. A tribute to these oral witnesses who keep passing on a reclining repertoire, and to those who keep and renew it. And at the end of the road hope awaits, beyond clashes and break-ups, with looming bridges and passages between generations and cultures.
“Transmission of the Invisible”, Sunday Oct.25, 7pm.
