Memory of Khmer cinema

With more than 350 films produced in 15 years, charismatic actors who rose to superstardom, theaters crowded with cheering movie enthusiasts, the Cambodian cinema truly lived a glittering, if somewhat short-lived, golden age in the 60s and 70s. In an unprecedented move in the history of cinema, this mini Khmer bollywood quickly sank into oblivion in the dramatic circumstances we know.

Davy Chou, young producer-director himself and grandson of one of the most prolific producers of the time Van Chann, is keen on rekindling the memory of this glorious time, making it a living part of young Khmer people's lives - to keep on filming Cambodian history.

As a movie enthusiast, Lady Penh is very excited to participate to unfolding Davy Chou's project on Cambodian cinema, past present and future. Over the next few months, Lady Penh will follow closely the exciting developments and projects of our associated artist with special editorials, interviews, "carte blanche".

This Saturday at the Bophana Center, Mrs Chou Settha, daugther of Van Chann, who produced Chhoeng Day Ov Puk, will present the film and share with the audience the memories of her childhood amongst the brightest stars of Cambodian cinema. Don't miss it!
