(c) Eye of Lady Penh
“Tuktuk, lady?” “Tuktuk, lady?” “Tuktuk, lady?” For a break away from Phnom Penh's din, no need to leave town. Every Monday, Thursday and Saturday evening, Wat Langka offers meditation classes to an eclectic mix. You may have the Buddha hall just for yourself and the monks. You may be with other Barangs looking for peace or simply a different experience. You may be with a Cambodian family party of parents, aunties and wiggling children.
If you are lucky, the venerable head monk will be there to advise newbie meditators with his idiosyncratic Buddha bonhomie. And if you last the whole hour, sitting still, body and mind in the same place at the same time, you won’t be sorry when you come out of the hall in the evening night. You will be welcome by a glimpse of the Independence Monument glowing softly in the dark night. Stars will shine above you. And who knows, a Buddha smile might even grace your lips…
Meditation classes at Wat Langka every Monday, Thursday and Saturday at 6pm. Free but donations welcome.
