RARELY SEEN IN THE WEST

The Chinese economy is considered the economic wonder of the world. Filmmaker Sue Williams portraits the lives of five wildly ambitious graduates, a hip hop artist, two migrant workers, a dedicated medical resident and a courageous environmental activist. Their stories of ambition, exuberance, crime and corruption are interwoven with moments of love, heartbreak and passion. In riveting emotional detail, YOUNG & RESTLESS IN CHINA (2008, 106mins) captures the highs and lows of coming of age. The film is buoyed by a driving sound track of Chinese rock and hip hop music and scenes of Chinese life rarely seen in the West.

The night is opened with Sokuntevy Oeur’s video dairy “ANOTHER CAMBODIA” (2009, 6mins). The Khmer female artist documents her first residency in Yunnan province.
